SP

Suwanna Phanupong

Bangkok · Read the Reading Circle

"I had read broadly about investing for years, but the reading circle gave me a way to actually work through what I thought I understood — and find the gaps. The discussion is the point. You cannot get this from a book alone."

Nattawut Charoenwong

Bangkok · Balance Sheet Workshop

"My wife and I came together. We both assumed we had a clear picture of our household finances. The worksheet showed us we had been counting the same assets twice and had forgotten about a family loan we made years ago. The day was uncomfortable at moments, but that was the value of it."

Pornpan Lertpaisit

Chiang Mai (attended Bangkok session)

"I travelled to Bangkok specifically for the Annuities programme. Every financial professional I had spoken to about annuities was trying to sell me something. For the first time, I understood the actual mechanics — and was able to ask the questions that mattered to me. The glossary is genuinely useful."

Wanchai Thamrongsak

Bangkok · Reading Circle

"The small group size is essential — I cannot stress this enough. I have attended financial seminars with two hundred people where the questions from the floor were too basic or too specific to be useful to me. Here, every conversation was relevant. I have attended two cycles now."

Malee Kongkham

Bangkok · Balance Sheet Workshop

"I am a single woman in my early 50s. The financial content I typically find online assumes I am either a young investor or part of a couple. The balance sheet workshop addressed my specific circumstances — gold savings, support for my mother, my own provident fund — without any assumptions about what I should do."

Apirak Sitthichai

Bangkok · Annuities Programme

"I appreciated that Pradit was willing to say 'that product has unfavourable terms for someone in your situation' without following it with a recommendation for an alternative. It is a simple thing, but I had never experienced it in a financial education context before."

Three participant journeys in detail

KS

Korakot, 54

Balance Sheet Workshop

Starting point

Had accumulated various assets over thirty years — property, savings, gold — but had never drawn up a coherent picture of his household finances. Was approaching early retirement and felt uncertain about what he actually had.

During the workshop

Completed the Thai-context worksheet over the course of the day, discovering that a family loan made eight years earlier had not been consistently tracked and that his property valuation assumptions were out of date.

Outcome

Left with a completed single-page balance sheet and a list of three specific follow-up tasks — none of them product purchases. He described the day as the most practically useful financial activity of his working life.

TR

Thida & Ratchanon

Annuities Programme · Couple

Starting point

A couple in their late 50s who had been offered an annuity product by their bank. They did not understand the terms and felt unable to evaluate whether it suited their situation without a background in the subject.

During the programme

Worked through the mechanics of annuity structures, learned the specific terms to examine in Thai-market products, and used the third session to apply this knowledge to their own circumstances.

Outcome

Decided the offered product's surrender terms were unsuitable for their situation. Postponed the decision for eighteen months while considering alternatives — a choice they made themselves, with full understanding of the trade-offs.

NW

Niracha, 46

Reading Circle · Two cycles

Starting point

Mid-career professional who had never felt confident enough about financial concepts to make considered decisions. Had avoided the topic rather than engaging with it poorly.

Through two reading circles

Built a working vocabulary for personal finance and developed the habit of reading critically on the subject. The bound volumes from both cycles sit on her desk, annotated.

Outcome

Attended the Balance Sheet Workshop in the following season. Now approaches financial decisions with a clearer framework — and with better questions to ask of the professionals she consults.
